Authenticity: Understanding our Emotions

When Jesus saw her crying and the Jews who had come with her crying also, he was deeply disturbed and troubled.” -John 11:33 (CEB) Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” – John 7: 37-38 (NRSV)
Heartbreak, seething anger, groans of grief, whoops and hollers of joy. All very human. And all very Jesus. We begin our series “The Passionate Jesus” by affirming the role of human emotions and that Jesus– fully human as well as divine–indeed had emotions too. By taking a look at the emotional life of Jesus, what can we learn about owning our God-given emotions and responding authentically? For it is through our deeply-felt emotions that God is moving us to action!

About Us

University Baptist & Brethren Church has established itself as a dynamic and progressive congregation since the April day in 1922 when a small group of people gathered to organize a Baptist Church in State College. The congregation — forty charter members — met in private homes and on campus until the first church building was dedicated in 1928.
