2022 is an exciting year for the members and friends of University Baptist and Brethren Church – our beloved church is turning 100 years old. On behalf of the congregation, Pastor Bonnie Kline Smeltzer welcomes you to celebrate with us as we reflect on our history.
The Centennial Celebration theme – A Welcoming Community woven Together in Faith, Love and Service – perfectly describes the rich history of UBBC.
Over the last 100 years there have been many changes. What began as a small group of American Baptists meeting in homes for worship, learning, and fellowship has grown to be a largely ecumenical congregation, which was is situated on a campus including the church building and three adjacent homes used by local nonprofits serving the community.
Worship continues to be meaningful and spirited, rich with music, and now accessible online. Local and global opportunities for service are intergenerational and carry on to meet emerging needs.
As people of faith, I believe UBBC will continue the work of Jesus for these times. May God Bless us and may the Spirit empower us to carry on in Christ’s name.
-Bonnie Kline Smeltzer, UBBC Pastor (2002-2022)
