“The One Who Remembers” – Psalm 94
World Communion Sunday is about more than recognizing that Christians all over the
world share in the Communion ritual. It is a time to remember that when we come to
the table at Jesus’ invitation, we are also rededicating ourselves to be part of God’s
movement of justice, healing and restoration for this broken world. We live in a time
when there is a worldwide refugee crisis. A staggering number of human beings have
been displaced from their homes and their ancestral lands by war, hatred, oppressive
rules, and by the devastating effects of climate change. While many of these people
are virtually invisible, we remember that God remembers … everything, and everyone.
So when we come to the table of World Communion we are called to remember with
God, as uncomfortable as they may sometimes be.
