A small group of women from UBBC who got together monthly to knit became a part of the prayer shawl ministry. Prayer shawls are knitted for people who need some kind of comfort, rather it be a birth of a new child, hospital stay, loss of a loved one or somebody who just needs to know they are not alone. Each shawl is unique as it is knitted with the person in mind whom they are knitting it for. After the knitting is complete the shawl is passed around the circle and blessed before given away.
“Shawls … made for centuries universal and embracing,
symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God.
They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace,
mother, hug, shelter and beautify.
Those who have received these shawls have been
uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to
fly above their troubles…”
