At UBBC putting our faith into action is important. We try to continue the work of Jesus by “walking the talk”. Opportunities for service are a part of our life together. Through service we find ways to demonstrate our love for God and neighbor.
SERVICE/VOLUNTEER
The following service opportunities occur every year. Additional opportunities are listed in the Sunday bulletin, Friday Flash weekly email, and newsletter.
Out of the Cold provides the homeless in our community with a warm and safe overnight accommodation. Each evening guests are welcomed warmly, served a hot meal, given a cot, warm blankets, and a place to sleep. Breakfast is served and in the morning and before leaving guests can register to return that evening. Each year UBBC hosts OOTC for two weeks. Volunteers are needed to host, stay overnight, and provide meals. Volunteer Coordinators are: Josh and Sarah Potter, Eric Lippincott and Jill Redman.
CROP Walk UBBC members and friends participate in the annual State College CROP walk each Fall. Walkers recruit sponsors to help them raise funds to end hunger in our community and around the world. 25% of the total funds raised supports the State College Food Bank, and the rest is given to Church World Service to be used in relief and hunger-fighting efforts wherever it’s needed most.
Knitters/Prayer Shawls
Calling all folks who knit, crochet, or other handcrafts to meet monthly for fellowship and service to others. Prayer shawls, lap robes, and scarves are made for persons in times of grief, sickness, and celebration. The crafters of these gifts weave their prayers of love and healing into each creation. The group meets in the Library at 2 p.m., the 2nd Wednesday of the month from September – May.
